Having been born before the advent of moonlandings means not only that one can remember when there were only two colors on the tv – it also means you have a distinct recollection that computers were largely infallible.
As the progress of these glorified calculators and their peripheral units is steadily gathering speed – my confidence in them is steadily decreasing. It seem like it’s a bit more important to “get to market” – than to actually “bring something”. Being of the old school I tend to do things the hard way – and half expect everyone else to take full responsibility for all their actions.
This does not mean that I toil unnecessarily – just that I will rarely if ever attempt to save time at the expense of “doing it right”.
Now I am not averse to cutting corners – but the corners I cut will usually be documentation – I have no qualms with this as I pride myself on having a very good memory ( for important things – not birthdays, years or even which day of the week it is ).
And I can quite effortlessly recall the ip-addresses, passwords etc. of routers or firewalls I haven’t touched for 10 years.
In the year of your lord 1989 I began to study engineering – and in that context I was told that I would “probably find a computer handy”
So I bought one – the rest as they say – is history…
